An Introduction to Family Lifestyle Photography

What is family lifestyle photography?

It is on-location photography, so photography in a local park or beauty spot, or in your own home or garden.  You will be guided rather than posed and it takes on more of a free-style than formal studio photography.  It is fun and the best photographs are often those when a family is laughing and interacting with each other.  If you are having your session at home, your children will be comfortable and in familiar surroundings.  If you are having your session outdoors, you can treat it as a walk out or a day out - spending time outdoors with your family.

Who is family lifestyle photography for?

Lifestyle photography is ideal for families, especially active families, busy families or those with pets or younger children.   It is ideal for those who don't want the formality of a studio, but would rather have a family portrait with a meaningful or picturesque background.  

Is family lifestyle photography suitable for newborns?

Absolutely, yes.  It is not posed newborn photography where they are pictured in baskets or wraps. Rather it is more natural; photographs with mummy and daddy, with siblings, the day-to-day, etc.  It the creation of memories of your interactions and emotional connection you have with your newborn baby that will remind you of that time for many many years.

You will have a telephone consultation before your session.  Among other things, our consultation will cover:

• when and where we will be meeting,

• what to prepare in your home, or what to plan for an outdoor session,

• clothing, hair, makeup guidance,

• guidance on timings,

• information about we'll expect from one another,

• it is also a chance to address any concerns or questions you may have.
